Chopping Blocks & Swedish Fire Logs

Chopping Blocks: Ring of wood approx 30cm x 30cm ideal for splitting kindling on.

Swedish Fire Logs: (pictured)

What is it? Basically a log split like a cake and used for a small outdoor fire, outdoor entertaining, evening light, toasting marshmellows & even cooking on (when placed on stable ground)!

We use either Pine (Plantation) or Old Man Pine an approx size: length 50cm-60cm diameter 30cm-40cm.

History: Many believe it's name is derived from the 30 Year War, which started in 1618 and ran through 1648. During the war, firewood was hard to come by and difficult to haul. It made sense that the soldiers were looking for ways to conserve wood. Thus, the swedish fire torch was born.

How does it burn? As embers burn at the top, they fall down into the log, burning it from the top down. Air is continually drawn in through the slits on the side.

Other sizing may be available, please ask.

How to Light: Build a bundle of kindling in the log, using firelighters or some sort of lighter fluid, such as kerosene.

*Please remember to check fire lighting guidelines in your area before lighting one of our Swedish Fire Logs.

Sanding: To get the most from wooden rounds use an electric sander, start with a very coarse sandpaper (40 grit) and progressively working to a fine sandpaper (240 grit), until surface is smooth with no saw marks. Make sure to put the time in sanding as this will give the best finished product.

Staining: 2-3 thick coats over the entire surface allowing each coat to cure before adding the next (including the edges), you could use a varnish or polyurethane or for best results use linseed oil with a polished wax finish.
